Final Hajj sermon by the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) holds great importance for Muslims throughout the world owing to two reasons, firstly it was the first and final Hajj pilgrimage of the Prophet of Islam (Peace be upon him), secondly the most important instructions for Muslims were delivered by him in the form of a sermon on the 9th of Zil-Hajj (the last month in the Islamic calendar year) in the plain of Arafat, 632 AD, excerpts of which can be found in the accurate books of hadith namely Bukhari, Muslim and Abu Dawood.
Speech delivered by the Messenger (Peace be upon him) of Allah is not only a source of enlightenment for all, but also sheds light on different aspects of life, how things should be handled, how people should be treated and so forth. The Prophet before commencing the speech indicated towards final days of his life, hence, emphasized that the sermon be listened to carefully and be further delivered to those who were absent or had moved forward with their caravans. Golden words of the Prophet’s (Peace be upon him) are a ray of light for the humanity which stressed upon the Muslims to treat the life and property of other fellow Muslims as sacred, furthermore, he also emphasized upon the return of goods to their rightful owners which had been entrusted to anyone for safeguarding or safe keeping. He further forbade from hurting others as that would surely backfire and start a chain. In addition to that, he strictly forbade interest and from then on all interest was waived. Prophet of Islam (Peace be upon him) also highlighted the need to stay beware of the Satan in both small and big things and shatter his hopes of driving Muslims astray. He further asked all followers of Islam to treat women with kindness, as wives they had the right over their husbands to be clothed and fed properly, whereas husbands had right have their orders followed under the lights of Islam, which included being unchaste or being friends with someone without approval of the husband. Messenger of Islam (Peace be upon him) in his final speech, also directed Muslims to fulfil the basic pillars if Islam praying, fasting, paying Zakat and performing Hajj, if one had the means, additionally, he stressed upon the importance of brotherhood telling that all Muslims are brothers and no one had superiority over the other owing to caste, creed, race, color, ethnicity and the only basis for superiority before Allah was piousness. The Prophet (Peace be upon him) of Allah finally underscored one major thing before finishing his sermon, saying that he was the last Prophet (Peace be upon him) and there would be no apostle or Messenger after him, so he urged all to listen to him carefully.
